REOPENING OF THE FORRA ROAD
On 13.03.2026 from 4.30pm, a permanent one-way traffic flow is established uphill, in the section from the intersection with Strada Gardesana to the “La Forra” restaurant.
The road remains open with two-way traffic downhill until the traffic light.
Both restaurants located along the road are open and accessible.
For those arriving from the north of Lake Garda, the plateau with the 17 villages of Tremosine can be reached by traveling along the Gardesana (sp 45 bis), continuing up to Limone and going up from Bassanega.
For those arriving from the south of the lake we recommend the same solution but it is also possible to reach Tremosine by deviating towards Tignale.
The village of Campione, on the lake, can be reached as always along the Gardesana road.
No entry for pedestrians except for the 250 meters of the canyon.

When it was inaugurated on May 18, 1913, a Frankfurter Zeitung correspondent named it, and was probably not wrong, “the most beautiful road in the world”. Wiston Churcill called it “the eighth wonder of the world”.

The Porto-Vesio road, 11 km long, very suggestive both in its portion with a balcony overlooking the lake and in its valley section in the Brasa gorge, was built in 1913. The two priests Giacomo Zanini and Michele Milesi were promoters of the latter. , at that time, also city councilor. There was no lack of opposition to its construction; people said, “What are we going to do with it?” The grass will grow and we will send the goats to graze … “. They convinced Count Vincenzo Bettoni, then Deputy, of the goodness of the company, and he interested Giuseppe Zanardelli, from Brescia, head of government. With a special law (312, 8 July 1903) it was established that the government would finance half the work, a quarter would be paid by the province and the rest paid by the municipality. The works began in 1908 and lasted four years, with workers specialized in mine works coming mainly from Serle. Four died on the site: their names are engraved on a plaque currently placed in the Brasa gorge. The designer and director of the works was Arturo Cozzaglio, geologist, from Treviso, flanked by various technicians including Giuliano Massarani, Lelio Franchi, Tullio Massarani. Cozzaglio devised brilliant solutions: the return of the road to the lake after the second bridge over the Brasa (going up), both to lengthen the route, so as to prevent an excessive slope, and to avoid the passage of the road within the treacherous rock formation of the Corlór limestone, with fine and yielding layers; the deviation of the stream into an artificial tunnel so as to make the riverbed occupy the road at the bottom of the ravine; the ring of the High bridge always in the ravine. The chronicles narrate that on the day of the inauguration (May 1913) the road was covered by numerous cars, which arrived at the port by boat, and by a huge number of people from all over the province.
From the book “Tremosine: short guide”

In 1913, on the project of Arturo Cozzaglio and on the initiative of Don Giacomo Zanini, parish priest at Vesio, a road connecting the port to the lake was built. It is the Strada della Forra. A real jewel, nestled in the bowels of the mountain, along the rift carved by the Brasa torrent along it you can admire the folds of the rock that envelop the infernal cave like coils of a snake, while the narrow stream between the jaws grumbles its anger.
From the book “Tremosine, Paradiso del Garda”
